Universal Credit: Couples
What happens when one member of a couple dies?
The joint UC award will become a single award, but there is a special rule that applies. For three assessment periods, the UC continues to include the couple rate of the Standard Allowance and any Elements that applied to the deceased partner, and if they were allocated an extra bedroom in the size criteria, that continues too. See this page for more information.
