Moving out of Temporary Accommodation, not on UC
Moving out of temporary accommodation?
If the claimant is moving from temporary to general needs accommodation, then their HB will end and they will need to get help with their rent through a UC Housing Cost Element.
If they are not on UC yet, they will need to make a claim.^

^Claimants not yet on UC who moved from temporary accommodation into mainstream accommodation within the same local authority were previously able to continue claiming HB for help with their rent. Regulations that came into force in November 2025 changed this. Since then, anyone moving from temporary (or specified) to mainstream accommodation will have their HB terminated and must claim UC for help with housing costs, even if they are moving within the same local authority.
