Sickness and Disability
There is a wide range of disability-related financial support available.

Some one may be able to claim if:

  • they can't work because they are sick or disabled
  • they have difficulty with everyday tasks or getting around
  • they have a low income or no income
  • they had an accident or contracted an illness through work or whilst in the Armed Forces.

Armed Forces Compensation Scheme

Compensates for injury, illness or death caused by service on or after April 2005.


Armed Forces Independence Payment

For those seriously injured while serving in the armed forces.

Attendance Allowance


For those state pension age who have care needs due to an illness or disability.




Carers Allowance

For someone age 16+ who provides 35 hrs a week care to a severely disabled person.

Constant Attendance Allowance

For those who are entitled to IIDB or War Disablement Pension who are in need of daily care.

'Credits-Only' for LCW

Who can have a 'Credits-Only' claim for LCW? And what does it mean?

 

DLA - Adult

For those age 16-66 who have care needs or mobility problems, No new claims.



 

DLA - Child

For children under 16 who have care needs or mobility problems. 

IIDB

For people disabled due to an accident at work, or who have certain illnesses caused by their work.






New-Style ESA

For working age people who have an illness or disability that makes it hard for them to work.




Old-Style ESA

For working age people who have an illness or disability that makes it hard for them to work.

PIP

For people age 16 - 66 who have care or mobility needs as a result of an illness or disability.

 

Scottish Adult Disability Payment

New benefit replacing PIP for those living in Scotland. 



Scottish Child Disability Payment

New benefit replacing DLA for children living in Scotland.

Scottish Young Carer Grant

Yearly payment for young carers in Scotland.





SSP

Paid by someone's employer when they are sick and unable to work.

 

War Disablement Pension

For those injured or disabled as a result of military service before 6th April 2005.
