A new lower rate of LCWRA Element was introduced on 6th April 2026.

Claimants whose LCWRA Element is awarded because they are treated as having LCWRA will get the lower rate if their 'relevant period' started on or after 6th April 2026 (unless they fall under the 'special rules' for terminal illness/end fof life). 
If a claimant thinks they might also meet the Severe Conditions Criteria, and therefore qualify for the higher (protected) rate of LCWRA, they must have a Work Capability Assessment - so should request to be assessed.
