Housing Costs: How Much?
KEY FACTS

  • How Much a claimant's Housing Costs Element will be will depend on many factors.

  • If they are living in social housing then the DWP will need to know their rent and eligible service charge figures, how many bedrooms they have, and who else is living in the property.

  • For claimant's living in the private rented sector, their Housing Costs Element will be based on the lower of their 'core' rent and the applicable Local Housing Allowance.

  • Where a claimant has a non-dependant living with them, then a Housing Costs Contribution may be deducted.

  • Some homeowners can get help with certain service charges.

  • And there are issues for joint tenants
