Coronavirus - What is self-isolating?

To reduce the spread of Coronavirus, there are rules that require those who test positive, those with symptoms who are awaiting a test and certain other people to self-isolate.

‘Self isolating' is not the same thing as 'social distancing’ or 'shielding'.

Latest information on who must self-isolate here - for England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland.

Proving self-isolation

Measures have been put in place for employees to obtain medical evidence from NHS 111 rather than their own GP. 'Isolation notes' will provide them with the evidence that their employer needs to be able to pay Statutory Sick Pay (assuming the worker meets the qualifying criteria).

Test and Trace Support payment

Test and Trace Support Payments may be available to workers (employed or self-employed) who are getting certain benefits and who have tested positive for Covid -19, or their child has, and who are unable to work from home and will lose income as a result
