The information given below is how the system would normally work. However during the Coronavirus outbreak special measures have been put in place.
The claimant, if they believe they are entitled to UC, should make a new claim as soon as possible.
And if they believe that their previous claim was closed in error – because the DWP did not follow their own guidance / time limits - request a Mandatory Reconsideration of that decision.
All requirements to attend appointments at the Jobcentre in person are suspended for at least 3 months, starting from Thursday 19 March 2020. Jobcentres remain open, but only for the most vulnerable claimants, such as homeless people, and by appointment only.
The message from the DWP is: ‘Don’t call us, we’ll call you.’
NOTE: Calls from the DWP tend to show as from a ‘withheld number’, so the claimant must make sure these are not blocked on their phone, and must answer these calls.Click here
