A Disabled Child Element can be included for each child / qualifying young person who meets the conditions for it, for whom the claimant is responsible and with whom the disabled child normally lives.
It does not matter whether a Child Element is also included for that child / qualifying young person or not.
There are two different levels of Disabled Child Element depending on the severity of the child's disability (2023/2024 rates):

Disabled Child Element (low)
For a child or qualifying young person who is entitled to:
- Any rate of either component of Disability Living Allowance/Child Disability Payment (care or mobility) apart from the highest rate of the care component; or,
- Any rate of either component of Personal Independence Payment/Adult Disability Payment apart from the highest rate (ie enhanced rate) of the daily living component.
Disabled Child Element (high)
For a child or qualifying young person who is entitled to:- The highest rate of the care component of Disability Living Allowance/Child Disability Payment, or
- The enhanced rate of the daily living component of Personal Independence Payment/Adult Disability Payment, or
- Who is certified as severely sight impaired or blind by a consultant opthalmologist.
